New Norm Marketing

Updated: May 28, 2020

Consider these for your post pandemic response:

Shopping for leisure at a mall is gonna get cumbersome. Stores need to re-think their purposes. If foot traffic is going to slow down, especially with the whole social distancing practice in play, we need to rethink the size, layout and objectives. Here are some ideas of how the new norm marketing will be from the perspective of the consumer:

1. Be more conscious of hygiene practices in store - please use gloves when you prepare my bubble tea, please clean / sanitize more, please consider a new way to dress up too, etc.

2. Make it easier for me to enter your store, if I chose to enter - can you please take my information once and the next time, I just give you my contact number or identifier rather than have me fill up a store entry log book. If I don't want the hassle to get in, perhaps consider more priority for showcasing at the window with new screen technologies.

3. Offer drive through delivery - please bring the item to my car when I am there after I order and pay online. Considering the "risk" of getting into the mall to your store, a drive by pick up option would be ideal as it saves me the delivery costs and addresses my social distancing concerns as well as quicker gratification of getting the stuff bought.

4. Provide clear information / instructions and enable actions on/for online purchase, delivery, collection, etc on your social media or website. Yes, it's about time everyone up their digital game.

5. Up-skill staff to do live-streaming and other digital marketing from the store. This will up the wages for retail / floor workers. While I understand not everyone will have the chops or skills for this, building this as part of the training program will be a good start.

Anyway, for something less casual and rant-some on New Norm Marketing, Board of Innovation provides one of the best perspective I've come across so far:
